After 70 years, air conditioning was provided to Auburn City Hall while maintaining the original historic appearance, accomplished with Beardsley Design Associates’ geothermal design.
The new heat pump equipment in the architecturally important council chambers and mayor’s office are located in existing recessed wood windowsills.
The city anticipates operation and maintenance costs of the geothermal heating and cooling system to be similar to the costs of the original fossil fuel heating-only system. BDA secured a $72,000 grant from NYSERDA’s new construction program to use geothermal technology, which covered roughly half the cost of the loop field.
