Five Star Bank’s goal was to continue a successful branch bank prototype on outparcels of Wegmans at two locations in the Rochester area – Henrietta and Greece – and do it within a year. The branches are each built on approximately 1 acre of developed land on each parcel which allows for a 2,800 sq ft branch footprint, parking for more than 30 cars on each site, and a 3-lane drive-thru with a bypass lane. Each site is entered and exited from the Wegmans plaza entry drive or parking area.
The buildings are characterized by a vaulted customer lobby with the teller line facing private offices on the first floor and a loft area for special services offices. This prototype was developed by Five Star at existing branches and those ideas were brought to the design of both of these buildings.
The central challenge of this project was to obtain approvals from two zoning boards, two planning boards, and two building departments, and build these two buildings to the level of quality and performance which Five Star required. These challenges were met by forging two close-working relationships – one being the, at times, hourly participation of Five Star, and the other being a contractual relationship with the Contractor which allowed for their early involvement. This working relationship was demanding of all to make decisions and move forward. Because of the focused effort by all, the two branches were open for business in one year.
