MATES Facility in Fort Drum, NY

Beardsley Architects + Engineers provided full architectural and engineering services for a new Maneuver Area Training Equipment Site (MATES) Facility at Fort Drum, NY, replacing an outdated multi-building complex. Designed to support the storage, maintenance, and distribution of over 1,000 tracked and wheeled vehicles used by the New York Army National Guard, the project involved phased development across a 90-acre site.

The approximately 200,000 SF pre-engineered metal building complex includes three work-bay wings with 59 large service bays for heavy equipment, each equipped with overhead bridge cranes and POL distribution systems. Specialized bays were designed for vehicle cleaning, painting, and engine testing. The facility also features trade shops for carpentry, welding, instrumentation, electronics, and calibration, along with administrative offices, training rooms, conference areas, locker rooms, and fitness space. An additional 500,000 SF of unheated vehicle storage sheds were designed to support long-term operational needs.
