Retired Engineer vs. Engineer in Training

We sat down with two generations of engineers to discuss mentorship, licensure, collaboration, and the lessons they’ve learned at different stages of their careers.

Claudia Scala, a Structural Engineer in Training who recently joined Beardsley, shares her perspective on preparing for the F.E. Exam, the experience of working at a full-service architecture and engineering firm, what she wishes more people understood about the profession, and the challenges of building connections in today’s increasingly remote workplace.

Joining her is Michael Picciano, who recently retired after a 37-year career as an Electrical Engineer. Michael reflects on the value of mentorship, the importance of collaboration across disciplines, and the advice he would offer to someone just beginning their career.

Watch the full conversation above to see how both long-term experience and fresh perspective can come together to contribute to strong projects and teams.
