U.S. Forest Service, New Headquarters Building
Mendon, VT
A New Office Space
In collaboration with design-build partner, Neagley and Chase Construction Company, Beardsley Architects + Engineers designed a new 14,500 SF sustainable U.S. Forest Service office building to support 65 permanent and seasonal staff. The project also includes a 3,400 SF unheated vehicle garage and storage facility.

What’s Inside
The first floor includes spaces for public relations staff, law enforcement offices, support spaces, restrooms, shower facilities, and a central reception area is located at the front of the building for access by the general public. The second floor provides open offices, team rooms, and private work areas including phone booths and a lactation room.
Reducing Costs & Increasing Efficiency
An all-electric VRF system with energy recovery ventilation supports efficient, low-energy operation and long-term performance. Plumbing systems were designed for efficiency and reliability with low-flow fixtures and a well water treatment system. Additionally, the electrical design prioritizes energy efficiency, reduced maintenance, and long service life. Strategies include LED lighting, advanced lighting controls, energy-efficient equipment selection, and optimized power distribution. Also, a structured cabling and telecommunications distribution system was provided.

Engineered for Sustainability
The project was designed with sustainability in mind, incorporating advanced building controls, water-use reduction, daylighting, indoor air quality measures, and low-emitting materials to support occupant health and long-term performance.
